A structured risk assessment of a pharma plant's electrical system, with recommendations to bring identified risks down.
The Situation.
For two years the plant had repeated tripping and blackouts, and the cause could not be found internally. Key drawings and records were missing.
What We Did.
- Verified 30 existing documents and prepared missing as-built documents: load list, single-line diagram, lightning protection and earthing layouts
- Electrical safety audit: site inspection, discussions with the O&M team, and identification of risks and hazards
- Carried out all 12 periodic asset condition tests the plant needed, including a power quality audit and earthing system health assessment
The Result.
- Documents needing update or preparation reduced from 11 of 30 to 1 of 30 (the hazardous area classification layout)
- Periodic test records complete: from 4 of 12 tests done to 12 of 12
- Prioritised recommendations: lightning protection upgrade, hazardous area layout, panel maintenance, corrosion and switchyard vegetation
