Shadow Analysis and Yield Estimation of a 0.98 MWp Solar Plant.

Near-shading analysis and yield estimation to set realistic generation expectations before the plant was built.

Sector
Solar, BESS & Power Generation
Service
Solar PV Design
Year
2023
Location
Gujarat, India
Client
Grid-connected solar plant owner

The Situation.

Before building a 0.98 MWp grid-connected plant on a fixed land area, the Client wanted a yield estimate they could rely on. Estimates are often inflated by optimistic loss assumptions and unreliable shading values.

What We Did.

  1. Site coordinates and Meteonorm data set up in PVsyst
  2. Tilt and pitch optimised by iterative far-shading simulation
  3. String and parallel configuration optimised for maximum output
  4. Realistic detailed losses defined: DC and AC wiring, module quality, LID, auxiliary and night consumption
  5. Near-shading model with fencing, lighting poles and lightning arresters, checked on the shortest and longest days

The Result.

  • Tilt, pitch and string configuration for maximum yield on the available land
  • Annual energy, system losses and performance ratio estimated with realistic assumptions
  • A design basis the Client could take into detailed design
